How do I write my own knitting pattern?

In Row & Round’s pattern writer, you type your pattern as blocks: a single row, a range like “Rows 1 to 8: k2, p2”, a repeat, a heading or a note. The app numbers every row, lays it out as a clean page, and you knit from it with the same bar and counters.

How it works

The writer expands ranges and repeats into numbered rows, shows right side and wrong side, and uses Row or Rnd to match your project. A repeat block offers its own repeat counter and counts passes, like “Pass 3 of 4”. Abbreviations such as k2tog are one list shared by all your patterns, with a starter set you can edit. Written patterns can be exported as a PDF. The pattern writer is part of the one-time unlock.

When people use it

  • Writing down a pattern from a book or magazine in your own words
  • Designing a simple hat, scarf or dishcloth
  • Keeping notes of the changes you made to a pattern

Questions

Does it write patterns for me?

Can I share a pattern I wrote?
