How do I make a knitting or crochet chart?

In the Row & Round chart maker you fill a grid of up to 200 by 200 squares with colours for colourwork, symbols for cables and texture, or crochet symbols. The app writes the key, numbers the rows and reads out the row you're on as you knit.

How it works

Paint squares in your own yarn colours, fill a whole row or column, erase, copy and paste a repeat, flip it to a mirror image, undo and redo. Grey no-stitch squares handle shaping. The chart reads the right way for flat knitting, work in the round or crochet, and in working mode the bar walks along it row by row with the row spelled out beneath, such as "k3, C4F, k3". Charts can be exported as a PDF with their key. The chart maker comes with Row & Round Unlock.

When you’d reach for it

  • Planning a colourwork yoke or a hat band
  • Charting a cable panel
  • Drawing a crochet motif
